“There is no war to be started from Tigray; it is better to be careful not to have a bullet fired from the other side,” said Lt. General Tadesse Werede, President of the Interim Administration of the Tigray Region, in a recent statement.
The President emphasized that the people and leadership of Tigray are committed to peace. “We believe that everything can be resolved peacefully. There will be no harassment or war initiated from Tigray,” he affirmed.
Addressing the ongoing tensions in the Southern Zone of the region, President Tadesse remarked that the issue is not merely a local matter. “It is a problem for all of Tigray. The interim administration will resolve it through dialogue with the local administration in the zone,” he said.
He also addressed concerns related to the so-called “Tigray Peace Force” and the armed resistance in the Afar region. According to the President, these challenges must be resolved through peaceful dialogue. “Any alternative path would endanger the people and must be approached with great caution,” he warned.
Touching on broader regional concerns, President Tadesse underscored that the sovereignty of Tigray has been violated and many displaced persons and refugees are still unable to return to their homes. “Resolving these issues peacefully remains our top priority,” he stated.
He concluded by urging the federal government to act. “We place the return of displaced persons and refugees at the top of our agenda. We call on the federal government to fulfill its responsibility and ensure that the situation does not close the door to peace as time goes on.”
